Did you know that chronic absenteeism is a big issue facing South Carolina school districts, local schools, and educators today? 1 in 4 students are chronically absent in South Carolina. Be Present S.C. is a South Carolina Education Oversight Committee initiative aimed at informing students and families of the importance of regular school attendance.When is a student chronically absent? "Any student in grade K-12 who misses 50 percent or more of the instructional day, for any reason, for 10 percent (or more) of the enrollment period. This includes excused absences, unexcused absences and suspensions." -S.C. Department of Education
